Introduction to Templates

Templates are shortcuts for special formatting within the Wiki to make text look more pretty and mark certain types of content.

A template is referenced like this:

{{template_name | optional_parameters }}

Standard templates used by FreeThoughtPedia

Wip: Marking an article as a Work In Progress

This template is used to indicate a page that's a work in progress. This is usually placed at the top of a page:

{{wip|MYNAME}}

Where MYNAME is the name of the person who is working on the page, or if you invite others to help edit the page, leave that blank such as:

{{wip}}

Example:

Icon-broom.png

The following article is a Work In Progress. At present nobody is working on this article. If nobody is specifically working on this page, you are invited to help edit it and make it better.

Bluebox: Using a shaded blue box (usually to indicate theist/quoted testimony)

This template can be used to show a typical argument/quote.

Usage:

{{bluebox|
 CONTENT
 }}

Example:

{{bluebox|
 One look at the beauty of our world and it's obvious: ''God did it!''
 }}

One look at the beauty of our world and it's obvious: God did it!

Biblequote: quoting text from scripture

This template is used for bible references.

Usage: {{biblequote|book|chap-verse|text|version}}

Example:

{{biblequote|Romans|13:8|Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one
 another, for he who loves his fellow-man has fulfilled the law.|(NIV)}}

- Romans 13:8:
Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellow-man has fulfilled the law. (NIV)

Az: embedding a link to a product on Amazon.com

This template makes it easy to put a quick link to Amazon.com for anyone interested in finding more information out about, or purchasing publications and other products. Our hosting company has an account with Amazon and will get a percentage of any sales made, which helps cover the costs of operating this site -- it's another way of supporting FreeThouhtPedia.

Usage {{Az|ASIN|text to hilight}}

where ASIN is the product ID number. You can find this in the url of a typical Amazon product listing:

For example, here's the URL displayed when you look at the book, "The Brick Testament"

http://www.amazon.com/Brick-Testament-Stories-Book-Genesis/dp/1931686459/ref=pd_bbs_sr_...

The part in bold is the ASIN (1931686459), so you could do something like this:

{{Az|1931686459|The Brick Testament}}

and it would come out like this:

The Brick Testament
